Dog treat packaging was on the agenda for the day. Mark, my
husband, particularly liked one colorful package of dog beef jerky which we
were excited to show the manager of our meat processing plant, Dutch.
Mark nonchalantly threw this attractive package on Dutch’s desk.
Thinking it was human beef jerky, Dutch immediately grabbed a bite of
the dog treat.
Mark couldn't get the words out fast enough to warn Dutch.
As soon as Mark told him the beef jerky was a dog treat, Dutch was
horrified.
Both men are ranchers and experts at meat processing.
What did these experts know that caused both to react so
strongly to a dog treat package clearly labeled "100% natural"?
Being in the industry, Mark and Dutch knew that dog beef jerky has a high probability of containing excrement, floor sweepings, rancid oils, commercial waste from manufacturing, insects, rodents, moldy products, diseased animal parts, filth and meat that does not pass USDA guidelines.
Meat processors look at pellets of dog food and consider eating one bowl the equivalent of
the scariest “Fear Factor” challenge.
Pet food companies buy food that is often considered dangerous for human consumption. Food worthless
for humans is sold for pennies on a dollar and turned into gold with fancy marketing to pet owners.
Pet food companies love to scare consumers that home prepared food could never provide a 100% balanced
pet diet. They fail to mention the questionable source of their
"nutritious" food.
How is it that we are competent to feed our babies and children but incompetent to
feed our pets ?
For thousands of years before commercial dog food, dogs would eat food they foraged, scraps from tables, raw meat and cooked meals. Pet lovers would offer human
food to their
beloved pets. Feeding pets was never considered rocket science.
American pet owners now believe the marketing materials of commercial pet food companies.
They avoid preparing meals for their pets. Instead
owners are convinced that dog nutritionists, veterinarians and scientists at pet food companies have come up with the formula for the perfect meal for their pets in a convenient bag with a shelf life of months to years.
As caring parents, none of us would feed our families the same exact
meal every day.
We know that a balanced diet is experienced over time with variety
in our meals. However, we think nothing of subjecting our pets to a daily diet of this low grade food filled with
chemicals and preservatives. In fact, most pet owners are afraid
to feed their pets anything else but what they find on the shelves of
their pet and grocery stores.
The cornerstone of health for humans and pets is a healthy diet. Your dog is a carnivore. In the wild, they would never eat cooked meat, grains, fillers, manufactured vitamins and preservatives. A dog’s system was designed to eat raw, enzyme rich foods.
Raw supermarket meats and vegetables are a vast improvement over commercial pet food. However, supermarket beef is feedlot beef.
That means the cows have a 90% or higher likelihood of being fed
a diet of grains, antibiotics, growth hormones, and steroids to quickly fatten them to slaughter weight in the final months of their lives.
Not only is this inhumane treatment unhealthy for cows but the resulting beef has residues of these drugs, high levels of fat and can contain antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. Plus to make matters worse, supermarket beef is
often treated with chemical baths or irradiation.
The healthiest beef you can feed your dog is pasture raised with no growth hormones, steroids or antibiotics direct from trusted
ranchers.
100% pasture raised beef is lower in unhealthy fat. Even though
it is low in unhealthy fat, it contains two to six times more healthy omega-3 fatty acids than supermarket beef.
Also, this beef contains 3 to 5 times the amount of cancer fighting "conjugated linoleic acid" and 4 times the amount of Vitamin E found in supermarket feedlot beef.
Another important concern is how the beef was processed. Hand butcher trimming each cow individually
is considered the safest processing in the beef industry.
At AmericanDogTreats.com we own our own small USDA facility and
process our dog treats and food to human standards.
We believe in sterilizing the facility after each cow is
processed. We use NO chemical baths and NO irradiation to
maintain the integrity of the beef for your dog.
The cattle we use for our dog treats are raised the way God designed cattle to be humanely raised.
Plus you are supporting small farmers by buying directly from
them. We are proud to provide beef that will build your dog’s health.
